Nomination Deadline for URock Volunteer Awards Approaching

It’s time to tell young volunteers and youth-led non-profit groups – you rock! The Honourable Keith Hutchings, Minister Responsible for the Office of Public Engagement, reminds the public the deadline to nominate individuals and organizations for the 2013 URock Volunteer Awards is Monday, March 4.

“Throughout Newfoundland and Labrador youth and youth-led organizations are making valuable contributions to their communities and province,” said Minister Hutchings. “The URock Awards are a way to celebrate and recognize the achievements of our young volunteers and to thank them for their dedication and commitment. It is also our hope that these awards will encourage and inspire others to get involved in their community and become a volunteer.”

Nominations for the 2013 URock Awards can be made in two categories: individuals and youth-led non-profit or community-based organizations. Individual nominees must have made outstanding voluntary contributions without reward or gain, be 30 years of age or under, and be a current or past resident of Newfoundland and Labrador. Organizations nominated must be youth-led non-profit and/or community-based groups which have made outstanding contributions without reward or gain, for the betterment of others. Each award winner will be presented with a customized guitar uniquely designed with the recipient in mind.

“Since their inception in 2010, the URock Awards have recognized 24 deserving and remarkable individuals and organizations,” said Minister Hutchings. “In the coming weeks, we will be announcing more details about the awards ceremony, which will take place on May 25, 2013. I encourage all citizens to nominate a deserving youth or youth-led group in their community today.”
