Nominations Open for URock Awards

Throughout Newfoundland and Labrador, youth and youth-led organizations are making valuable contributions to their communities and province. To acknowledge their achievements and dedication, the Honourable Keith Hutchings, Minister Responsible for the Office of Public Engagement, today opened the nomination process for the 2013 URock Volunteer Awards.

“Newfoundland and Labrador is home to many passionate, enthusiastic and innovative youth,” said Minister Hutchings. “They are driving positive change, championing charitable causes, and mobilizing and encouraging other youth to become involved. These awards were established to say thank you for their leadership and commitment to their community and province.”

Nominations for the URock Volunteer Awards can be made in two categories – individuals 30 years of age or under who have made outstanding voluntary contributions without reward or gain, and youth-led non-profit organizations that have made a significant contribution for the betterment of others. Up to eight awards will be presented at the awards ceremony. All nominees, recipients, and their families will be invited to attend the 2013 URock Volunteer Awards Show, a celebration in honour of the outstanding contributions being made by young volunteers throughout the province. The event will also include live performances by local rock bands and each award recipient will receive a customized electric guitar.

“By celebrating the achievements of young leaders, we hope to inspire others to volunteer and contribute to the future growth and development of their communities and province,” said Minister Hutchings. “I encourage individuals in all regions of Newfoundland and Labrador to nominate a deserving youth or youth-led organization for these awards.”
