Provincial Government provides $140,000 for Climate Change Education

Conservation Corps Newfoundland and Labrador received $140,000 from the Provincial Government to continue public education programming through the Climate Change Education Centre, the Honourable Tom Hedderson, Minister of Environment and Conservation, announced today.

“I congratulate everyone involved with the Climate Change Education Centre on its success and innovation in delivering public education programs in Newfoundland and Labrador,” said Minister Hedderson. “This funding will lead to even more enhanced programming to educate our students on the complex subject of climate change.”

Conservation Corps Newfoundland and Labrador has been the host organization for the Climate Change Education Centre since 2002 reaching approximately 5,000 students every year through outreach with schools and institutions across the province.

“It is crucial to target young people and educate them now about the effects of climate change,” said Terry McNeil, Executive Director for Conservation Corps Newfoundland and Labrador. “Continued funding from the Department of Environment and Conservation will allow us to invest in these programs and help us to develop new tools to deliver this vital information throughout the province.”

Providing financial support for climate change education programs is part of the Provincial Government’s 2011 Climate Change Action Plan, Charting Our Course.

Budget 2013: A Sound Plan, a Secure Future provided $1.5 million through the Department of Environment and Conservation for climate change program development initiatives.
