Environmental Assessment Bulletin
The Honourable Tom Hedderson, Minister of Environment and Conservation, has
announced the following events relative to Part 10 Environmental Assessment
of the
Environmental Protection Act.
UNDERTAKING REGISTERED:
Harvest Amendment – Crown Five Year Operating Plan FMD 2,5,7,9, & 14 (Reg. 1717)
Proponent: Forestry and Agrifoods Agency
This project details an amendment to the current Five Year Operating Plan
for Forestry Management Districts 2,5,7,9 and 14. The amendment concerns the
eradication program at the above five locations to prevent the build-up and
spread of the European strain of Scleroderris Canker. Scleroderris Canker is
an invasive tree disease that is particularly fatal to red pine and is
capable of killing trees of all age classes. Eradication will be conducted
after sites are assessed by Regional/District staff to determine the most
appropriate harvest methods to be used. All harvesting equipment will be
steam-cleaned on site following operations to prevent any movement of spores
on equipment to other parts of the province.
The undertaking was registered on August 13, 2013; public comments are due
by, September 20, 2013; and the minister’s decision is due by September 27,
2013.
UNDERTAKING REJECTED:
La Manche RV and Resort Park (Reg. 1698)
Proponent: RCM Development Inc
The project is rejected due to the following:
- The proposed project is not in conformance with the existing Crown reserve.
