Youth Encouraged to Attend Hunter Skills Workshop
In cooperation with the Department of Environment and Conservation, Youth Hunter Skills Workshops are being offered by the Deer Lake Upper Humber Rod and Gun Association, July 13, and the St. John’s Rod and Gun Club, July 20.
“I commend the members and volunteers of the St. John’s Rod and Gun Club and the Upper Humber Rod and Gun Club for their dedication and commitment towards encouraging young people to learn first-hand some of the important skills and safety practices involving hunting,” said the Honourable Tom Hedderson, Minister of Environment and Conservation. “We are pleased to work collaboratively with these organizations to provide these workshops. Hunting is a very significant part of our culture and heritage, and plays an important role in wildlife conservation and management.”
Youth between the ages of 12-17 are invited to attend the one day event
and must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. During the workshop,
participants will learn important hunting safety techniques for shotgun and
rifle shooting, archery and bow-hunting techniques, outdoor safety and
survival skills and other important lessons about wildlife conservation and
