2013-14 Big Game Licence Draw Concluded

The annual big game licence draw for moose and caribou for the 2013-2014 hunting season is now complete and licence notifications will be mailed out to all successful applicants in the coming days.

More than 73,000 big game hunting applications were submitted for this year’s draw for an available 27,660 resident moose licences and 475 resident caribou licences.

“Newfoundlanders and Labradorians remain very interested in hunting big game,” said the Honourable Tom Hedderson, Minister of Environment and Conservation. “We’re encouraged that more than 4,000 people applied online this year than in previous years.”

The online component of the Wildlife Information Management System allows the public to apply for a licence, make payments, check their application status, complete licence returns, and review their licence history.

Successful applicants can pay for their big game licence any time during the hunting season using one of four payment options.

Payments will be accepted after the deadline date but delay in receiving licences and tags could result. Hunters are reminded that black bear licences are also available and individuals may apply for a licence and make payments online. Payments for black bear licences are subject to the same deadlines and conditions as those for big game.

Resident hunters can obtain more information about their draw results and priority status and pay for licences by visiting www.wildlife.gov.nl.ca or by calling 709-637-2025 or 709-729-2630.

Those who applied online were entered in a random draw contest. Three winners were selected from those who submitted a big game draw application online before the May 24, 2013 deadline.

Information on payment options and this year’s random draw winners are listed in the backgrounder below.
