Environmental Assessment Bulletin

The Honourable Tom Hedderson, Minister of Environment and Conservation, has announced the following events relative to Part 10 Environmental Assessment of the Environmental Protection Act.

UNDERTAKING REGISTERED:

Angus Lake ATV Trail                                         (Reg. 1693)
Proponent: Roberts’ Outfitting Ltd.

The proponent plans to construct a five kilometre ATV trail from a forestry access road near Cormack known as White River Road to Angus Lake, east of Gros Morne National Park. The trail will be three metres wide. Construction is scheduled to will take place in the summer of 2013.

The undertaking was registered on February 25, 2013; the deadline for public comments
is April 3, 2013; and the minister’s decision is due by April 11, 2013.

SUPPLEMENTARY INFORMATION RECEIVED:

Joyce Lake Direct Shipping Iron Ore Project       (Reg. 1674)
Proponent: Labec Century Iron Ore

On January 16, 2013, Labec Century Iron Ore informed the Department of Environment and Conservation of several key changes to the registration document including but not limited to mining from a singular pit, dewatering Joyce Lake, and relocation of infrastructure associated with operations and production. As a result on January 18, 2013, the department requested a supplementary information package to address these changes. The information package is available and may be accessed on the department’s website (see below).

The deadline for public comment is March 30, 2013.
