Environmental Assessment Bulletin

The Honourable Tom Hedderson, Minister of Environment and Conservation, has announced the following events relative to Part 10 Environmental Assessment of the Environmental Protection Act.

AMENDMENT TO THE ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT STATEMENT SUBMITTED:

Kami Iron Ore Project (Reg. 1611)
Proponent: Alderon Iron Ore Corp.

The proponent has revised and supplemented the October 1, 2012 version of the Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) in the form of an amendment.

The amendment is now subject to public and government review as required under the Environmental Protection Act. The EIS, with the amendment, is intended to address the information requirements contained in the EIS guidelines that were issued to the proponent on June 26, 2012 and the requirements in the Minister’s decision of December 12, 2012 on the October 1, 2012 version of the EIS. The EIS including the amendment can be viewed on the department’s website at www.env.gov.nl.ca/env/env_assessment/projects/Y2011/1611/index.html or by requesting a copy by contacting the Environmental Assessment Office at the number listed below.

The public deadline to submit written comments to the Minister on the amendment is April 6, 2013. The Minister’s decision on the acceptability of the EIS and amendment is due Monday, April 26, 2013.

ENVIRONMENTAL ASSESSMENT COMMITTEE APPOINTED:

Forteau Wharf and Laydown Area (Reg. 1669)
Proponent: Bay Bulls Properties Ltd.

The following agencies have been appointed to the Environmental Assessment Committee for the above project and will provide the minister with scientific and technical advice on the project:

Goose Bay Biotreatment Facility (Reg. 1684)
Proponent: Sanexen Environmental Services Inc.
