Media Advisory: New Safe and Caring Schools Policy
to be Launched at St. Teresa’s Elementary

The Honourable Clyde Jackman, Minister of Education, will join education and community partners on Monday, December 2, to officially launch a new provincial Safe and Caring Schools policy for Newfoundland and Labrador.

The event will take place in the theatre St. Teresa’s Elementary School, 425 Topsail Road, St. John’s, beginning at 10:00 a.m.

The revised policy is the result of an independent evaluation and review, undertaken by Goss Gilroy Inc. in 2012, followed by an extensive consultation process which saw more than 50 separate focus sessions held with school district personnel, the Newfoundland and Labrador Teachers’ Association, the Newfoundland and Labrador Federation of School Councils, law enforcement agencies, community groups, principals, teachers, parents and students, along with public input provided through a webpage established for that purpose.
