Over $349,000 Earmarked for Discovery Collegiate
Discovery Collegiate in Bonavista will be upgraded this year, following the
recent tender award of $349,170 to R&D Construction Ltd. of Bonavista for
the installation of some new windows and doors.
“With this latest project, about $620,000 has been allocated for work at
Discovery Collegiate in recent years, including roofing and other
improvements,” said the Honourable Clyde Jackman, Minister of Education.
“The Provincial Government is continuing the systematic approach to
upgrading school infrastructure that we began 10 years ago, funding
renovations, repairs and various upgrades at schools throughout Newfoundland
and Labrador.”
Discovery Collegiate serves about 240 students in Grades 9-12. The windows
and doors are expected to be installed by the end of the year.
“This is a great announcement for the students, parents and staff at
Discovery Collegiate,” said Glen Little, MHA for Bonavista South. “It is
critical that all our schools are safe and secure so that our students and
teachers can focus on receiving and delivering the best education possible.
I am delighted to see our government continue to maintain educational
facilities in rural Newfoundland and Labrador.”
Budget 2013: A Sound Plan, A Secure Future provides almost $102 million for
new and ongoing school infrastructure projects. Since 2004, about $620
million has been allocated for school infrastructure throughout the
province, including almost $220 million for more than 1,850 repairs and
maintenance projects.
