Siding to be Replaced at Stephenville Middle School
Stephenville Middle School is getting a facelift this year, with the recent
award of a $118,000 tender to replace siding at the school. The successful
bidder was Whitestone Group Inc. of Stephenville.
“Over the past 10 years, the Provincial Government has funded priority
repairs and maintenance projects in a systematic manner, providing students
and staff with safer, more modern learning environments,” said the
Honourable Clyde Jackman, Minister of Education. “This project, valued at
$118,000, and among more than 1, 850 approved since 2004, will spruce up the
outside of Stephenville Middle School and protect provincial investment in
this facility.”
The work is expected to be completed this year.
“Education and its infrastructure remain a strong priority for this
government,” said the Honourable Joan Shea, Minister of Advanced Education
and Skills and MHA for St. George’s – Stephenville East. “We recognize the
importance of providing modern facilities and its positive impact on quality
education. I am pleased to see ongoing investments into our education system
and into the community of Stephenville.”
Budget 2013: A Sound Plan, A Secure Future provides almost $102 million for
new and ongoing school infrastructure projects, including $21.4 million for
repairs and maintenance.
“I am pleased to see our government’s continued investment in providing a
safe and positive learning environment at Stephenville Middle School,” said
Tony Cornect, Parliamentary Assistant to the Premier and MHA for Port au
Port. “The students, teachers and staff will benefit from this investment
for a long time to come.”
Since 2004, about $620 million has been allocated for school infrastructure
throughout the Newfoundland and Labrador, including almost $220 million for
repairs and maintenance projects.
