Gander Academy to Receive Electrical Upgrades
Goodyear’s Electrical Ltd. of Gander has been awarded a tender, valued at
almost $174,000, for electrical upgrades at Gander Academy.
“This latest investment is an example of how the Provincial Government is
doing necessary work to upgrade schools throughout Newfoundland and
Labrador,” said the Honourable Clyde Jackman, Minister of Education.
“Meanwhile, planning is continuing around the construction of a new school
for Gander students in Grades 4-6, and school district and department
officials are reviewing a number of options for the redevelopment of the
existing school to serve the future needs of K-3 students in the area.”
Gander Academy is the largest K-6 school in the province, with approximately
920 students.
“I am very pleased with this latest investment of electrical upgrades to
Gander Academy,” said the Honourable Kevin O’Brien, Minister of Municipal
Affairs and MHA for Gander. “Our government continues to invest in the
infrastructure needs of our educational system, providing a safer
environment for our students and staff.”
Budget 2013: A Sound Plan, A Secure Future provides almost $102 million for
new and ongoing school infrastructure projects, including $21.4 million for
repairs and maintenance. Since 2004, about $620 million has been allocated
for school infrastructure throughout the Newfoundland and Labrador,
including almost $220 million for more than 1,850 repairs and maintenance
projects.
