Bay de Verde School to Undergo Roofing Upgrades
Flynn Canada Ltd. of Mount Pearl has been awarded a tender to upgrade the roof at Tricon Elementary in Bay de Verde.
“Almost $227,000 has been allocated to this project, which includes the replacement of an older section of the roof and other general upgrades,” said the Honourable Clyde Jackman, Minister of Education. “The Provincial Government is committed to improving the physical condition of schools in the K-12 system, which includes the continuation of an aggressive repairs and maintenance schedule.”
The work is expected to be completed by early fall.
“I am delighted to see these improvements,” said the Honourable Charlene Johnson, Minister of Child, Youth and Family Services and MHA for Trinity-Bay de Verde. “The students, staff and parent community at Tricon Elementary are dedicated to ensuring our children are provided with the best educational experience, and upgrading their learning environment is part of ensuring this is accomplished.”
Budget 2013: A Sound Plan, A Secure Future provides almost $102 million for new and ongoing school infrastructure projects, including more than $21.4 million for major repairs and maintenance requirements.
Since 2004, about $620 million has been approved for school infrastructure throughout the province. This includes almost $220 million for more than 1,850 repairs and maintenance projects, including roofing, window replacements, electrical upgrades and more.
