Exploits Valley High Redevelopment Continues

Phase II of the redevelopment of Exploits Valley High in Grand Falls-Windsor is underway, following the recent award of a contract valued at almost $6.4 million to LSG Construction of Gander.

“This is the second phase of an $11.9 million major redevelopment at Exploits Valley High, which has already seen the construction of a new gymnasium,” said the Honourable Clyde Jackman, Minister of Education, who was in Grand Falls-Windsor today to tour the site. “It is the latest in a series of almost 40 major school infrastructure projects, including new schools, extensions, redevelopments and extensive renovations, undertaken by the Provincial Government in the past 10 years.”

A sod-turning ceremony and reception, marking the approval of both phases of the redevelopment was held at the school in July 2011. Phase II will see renovations and upgrades to some classrooms and specialty rooms such as the skilled trades suite, cafeteria, kitchen and music room; electrical and plumbing upgrades, the installation of a mechanical ventilation system and modern sprinkler system, and demolition of the former gymnasium.

“This latest tender award, along with investments made in the new gymnasium and other projects, puts the total amount approved for upgrades to Exploits Valley High at almost $13 million since 2004,” said the Honourable Susan Sullivan, Minister of Health and Community Services and MHA for Grand Falls-Windsor - Buchans, who also toured the site today. “This new work, along with that of the previous phase, continues to ensure students in Grand Falls-Windsor have access to top-notch educational infrastructure.”

Phase II completion of the redevelopment of Exploits Valley High is anticipated in late 2014.

“I am delighted to see another investment made to Exploits Valley High,” said Ray Hunter, MHA for Grand Falls-Windsor - Green Bay South. “Our government is committed to enhancing school infrastructure for students, teachers and staff.”

Budget 2013: A Sound Plan, A Secure Future provides almost $102 million for new and ongoing school infrastructure projects. Since 2004, about $620 million has been allocated for school infrastructure throughout the province, including almost $220 million for more than 1,850 repairs and maintenance projects.
