Media Advisory: Minister to Attend
Governor General’s Caring Canadian Award Ceremony

The Honourable Clyde Jackman, Minister of Education, will attend the presentation of the Governor General’s Caring Canadian Awards today (Thursday, June 13), at Beachy Cove Elementary in Portugal Cove-St. Philip’s, where he will join His Excellency the Right Honourable David Johnston, Governor General of Canada, Their Honours the Honourable Frank Fagan, Lieutenant Governor of Newfoundland and Labrador and Mrs. Patricia Fagan, and David Brazil, MHA for Conception Bay East - Bell Island. The event gets underway at 1:00 p.m.

Created in 1995, the Governor General’s Caring Canadian Awards recognize living Canadians and permanent residents who have made significant, sustained, volunteer contributions to their community, in Canada or abroad. For more information about the awards, visit www.gg.ca/caring.

Beachy Cove Elementary will also use the occasion to launch a new mobile web-based application to highlight school activities and enhance family engagement with the school.
