Roofing Tender Awarded for Leo Burke Academy

A tender valued at more than $369,000 has been awarded to LSG Construction Ltd. to replace the roof at Leo Burke Academy in Bishop’s Falls.

“The Provincial Government is continuing its systematic approach to completing upgrades, renovations and repairs to school infrastructure throughout Newfoundland and Labrador,” said the Honourable Clyde Jackman, Minister of Education. “With this latest tender award, more than $512,000 has been allocated for work at Leo Burke Academy in recent years, including accessibility and interior upgrades.”

The roofing work is expected to be completed this summer.

“Investing in infrastructure is vital to delivering a high quality education,” said Exploits MHA Clayton Forsey. “This funding is welcomed news, ensuring that schools such as Leo Burke Academy are safe for our students and teachers.”

Budget 2013: A Sound Plan, A Secure Future provides almost $102 million for new and ongoing school infrastructure projects, including more than $21.4 million for major repairs and maintenance projects.

Since 2004, about $620 million has been approved for school infrastructure throughout the province, including almost $220 million for more than 1,850 repairs and maintenance projects, including roofing, window replacements, electrical upgrades and more. In addition, nine new schools have opened; 10 more are in various stages of planning or construction; 12 major extension and renovation projects have been completed, and eight more are underway or in the planning stages.
