Tender Called for West End High School
A tender has been called for the construction of a new high school for the west end of St. John’s.
“Site work is currently underway at the Topsail Road location, and with the announcement of this latest tender call, we anticipate a contract to be awarded and construction to begin late this summer,” said the Honourable Clyde Jackman, Minister of Education. “This new facility will replace the aging Booth Memorial and Bishops College, and serve about 860 students.”
Weir’s Construction Limited of Conception Bay South was awarded a $3.6 million tender for site work in January.
“This new tender call is great news,” said Dan Crummell, MHA for St. John’s West. “It is another important step towards construction of the new high school and I am delighted that this project is progressing.”
Current construction and service contract tender notices are available on the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador website at: www.tw.gov.nl.ca/TenderingandContracts/ .
Since 2004, about $567 million has been allocated for school infrastructure throughout the province. Nine new schools have opened; 10 more are in various stages of planning or construction; 12 major extension and renovation projects have been completed, and seven more are underway or in the planning stages.
