Roofing Project Approved for McCallum School

A $165,658 tender has been awarded to Bluebird Investments of Grand Falls-Windsor to carry out roof work at St. Peter’s All Grade in McCallum.

“Over the past nine years, more than 1,800 repairs and maintenance projects, including new roofs, windows, siding, electrical upgrades and more, have been approved for schools throughout Newfoundland and Labrador,” said the Honourable Clyde Jackman, Minister of Education. “It is part of the Provincial Government’s systematic approach to improving existing school facilities to ensure they remain safe and serviceable environments for students and staff.”

The project is expected to be completed this spring.

“I am very pleased with today’s announcement, which clearly demonstrates our government’s commitment to school infrastructure in rural Newfoundland and Labrador,” said Tracey Perry, MHA for Fortune Bay-Cape La Hune. “McCallum is a rural, remote community, and the students there acquire an excellent education. Completing these repairs to the school is very good news for us.”

Since 2004, about $567 million has been allocated for school infrastructure throughout the province. More than 1,800 repairs and maintenance projects have been completed. In addition, nine new schools have opened; 10 more are in various stages of planning or construction; 12 major extension and renovation projects have been completed, and seven more are underway or in the planning stages.
