Recognizing the Contributions of Teachers, Support Staff

School communities across the province are encouraged to recognize the contributions of those who inspire, motivate and care for students during Teacher/Staff Appreciation Week, February 10-16.

“Every school has dedicated teachers and school staff members who play an important role in helping us achieve our goal of providing students with the best possible educational experience,” said the Honourable Clyde Jackman, Minister of Education. “Whether it is hosting a lunch, hanging a banner, or sending a card, there are many simple ways to thank the teachers and support staff members who serve our students. I personally extend my sincere thanks and appreciation to them for the important work they do.”

Teacher/Staff Appreciation Week was initiated by the Canadian Home and School Federation in 1988 as a means to encourage parents, and the wider school community, to recognize the personal and professional contributions that teachers and school staff members make to children and their education.

“Teacher/Staff Appreciation Week is a great opportunity to recognize the influence our teachers and school staff have on the lives of our children,” said Ruby Hoskins, President of the Newfoundland and Labrador Federation of School Councils. “We are extremely fortunate to have professional and caring teachers and staff in our education system who go above and beyond their roles to nurture and help our youth reach their full potential as students, individuals and citizens. I encourage school councils, parents and students to express their appreciation to all teachers and school staff for their daily personal and professional contributions, not only this week, but throughout the entire year.”
