Expressions of Interest Called for Provincial Advisory Council for the Inclusion of Persons with Disabilities

The Honourable Joan Shea, Minister Responsible for the Status of Persons with Disabilities, is seeking expressions of interest for appointment to the Provincial Advisory Council for the Inclusion of Persons with Disabilities.

“The Provincial Government recognizes the importance of drawing on expertise from within the community of persons with disabilities when making decisions that advance inclusion,” said Minister Shea. “We are inviting people from across the province to put their names forward for this opportunity, or nominate people with demonstrated leadership in the advancement of people with disabilities."

The Provincial Advisory Council advises the Minister on matters of importance concerning persons with disabilities and consults with government as it develops barrier-free policies, programs, initiatives and recommendations to advance the inclusion of persons with disabilities in all aspects of society. A strong representation of persons with disabilities is sought for the council. Consideration will be given to a balanced representation of disabilities, urban-rural balance, regional representation and gender balance. Appointments are for two years.

"Through the Provincial Advisory Council, the Provincial Strategy for the Inclusion of Persons with Disabilities, and the Disability Policy Office, we are working to ensure opportunities for participation in society are accessible and equal as we pursue a common goal of inclusion for all Newfoundlanders and Labradorians,” said Minister Shea.

For more information on the Provincial Advisory Council and application guidelines, please contact the Disability Policy Office by phone at 709-729-6279, by email at disability.policy.office@gov.nl.ca or by visiting www.aes.gov.nl.ca/disabilities/dpo.html.
