Commitment to Bridge Repairs Continues with Projects in Central Newfoundland

Two bridges in central Newfoundland will receive repairs as the Department of Transportation and Works continues its record multi-year investment in bridge infrastructure.

“Since 2004, our government has invested almost $200 million in repairing and replacing bridges across the province,” said the Honourable Tom Hedderson, Minister of Transportation and Works. “Our bridges are important links in our transportation network, and this work will help improve the condition of these two important pieces of regional infrastructure.”

A tender has been called for the rehabilitation of Indian Arm Brook Bridge (west structure) in Campbellton on Route 340. The work will include concrete deck repairs, expansion joint replacement, curb resurfacing and repaving. Also as part of this project, expansion joint replacement will take place on the Sir Robert Bond Bridge on the Trans Canada Highway.

“The Government of Newfoundland and Labrador continues its commitment to maintaining and enhancing provincial infrastructure, and repairing bridges across the province is part of that work,” said Wade Verge, MHA for Lewisporte. “I am pleased to see these projects scheduled, and once complete, this work will ensure the road network in our region remains strong.”

Budget 2012: People and Prosperity includes an investment of $165.1 million to enhance provincial road and bridge infrastructure, including $60.1 million in continued investment in the Provincial Roads Improvement Program. This investment is supplemented by $60 million in Federal Government funding, for a total investment in 2012-13 of $225.1 million.
