Community Capital Grant Program Funds Menihek Nordic Ski Club
The Menihek Nordic Ski Club in Labrador West will purchase new ski equipment to upgrade their inventory with funding of $11,150 provided through the Provincial Government’s Community Capital Grant Program.
“Labrador West includes some of the best areas for winter sports in Newfoundland and Labrador,” said the Honourable Terry French, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Recreation. “Improved ski equipment will encourage residents to participate in the ski programs at the Menihek Nordic Ski facility, which is a great way to stay physically active during the winter months.”
The Menihek Nordic Ski Club is among several community-based organizations, municipalities, schools, and recreation commissions which have received funding to upgrade their recreation and sport infrastructure through these latest Community Capital Grant Program investments.
“I am so pleased to see this investment for the Menihek Nordic Ski Club in Labrador West,” said the Honourable Nick McGrath, Minister Responsible for Labrador Affairs. “Labradorians are very active during the winter months and this new ski equipment will certainly benefit skiers of all ages.”
Budget 2012: People and Prosperity provides $8.6 million to support recreation and sport in the province. Since the launch of the Provincial Government’s recreation and sport strategy, Active, Healthy Newfoundland and Labrador (2007), more than $70 million has been committed to recreational and sport infrastructure, programming, and athlete development throughout the province.
