Community Capital Grant Supports Improvements to Outdoor Facilities in Colliers
The Town of Colliers will be upgrading outdoor facilities as a result of $15,000 provided through the Provincial Government’s Community Capital Grant Program. The funds will be used towards the purchase of a chain fence for the dugout and a new slide for the playground.
“The Provincial Government continues to support communities such as Colliers in the development of recreation facilities and outdoor areas,” said the Honourable Terry French, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Recreation. “Projects, such as these, help provide residents with safe environments for sport and other physical activities.”
The Colliers Recreation Committee is among several community-based organizations, municipalities, schools, and recreation commissions which have received funding to upgrade their recreation and sport infrastructure through Community Capital Grant Program investments.
“Investing in recreation facilities is investing in the health and well-being of our residents,” said the Honourable Tom Hedderson, Minister of Environment and Conservation and MHA for Harbour Main. “I know first hand the recreational value of these spaces in Colliers, and I am pleased with the proposed upgrades.”
Budget 2012: People and Prosperity provides $8.6 million to support recreation and sport in the province. Since the launch of the Provincial Government’s recreation and sport strategy, Active, Healthy Newfoundland and Labrador (2007), more than $70 million has been committed to recreational and sport infrastructure, programming, and athlete development throughout the province.
