Upgrades Coming to the Corduroy Brook Nature Trail
Hikers and walkers in the Exploits area will experience upgrades to the Corduroy Brook Nature Trail thanks in part to $15,000 provided through the Provincial Government’s Community Capital Grant Program.
“Trails provide residents of all ages with an ideal outdoor space to get fresh air and exercise,” said the Honourable Derrick Dalley, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Recreation. “Improvements to the Corduroy Brook Nature Trail will encourage people to get out and enjoy physical activity in a natural environment.”
The Corduroy Brook Enhancement Association is among several community-based organizations, municipalities, schools, and recreation commissions which have received funding to upgrade their recreation and sport infrastructure through these latest Community Capital Grant Program investments.
“It is good to hear that the Corduroy Brook Nature Trail is receiving funding for upgrades, as this trail is very popular with people who live in the area,” said Ray Hunter, MHA for Grand Falls-Windsor - Green Bay South. “Improvements will keep people coming out to use the trail system and will promote good health.”
Budget 2012: People and Prosperity provides $8.6 million to support recreation and sport in the province. Since the launch of the Provincial Government’s recreation and sport strategy (2007), Active, Healthy Newfoundland and Labrador, more than $70 million has been committed to recreational and sport infrastructure, programming, and athlete development throughout the province.
