Playground to be Upgraded by Sandy Cove Lions Club

New playground equipment is being purchased by the Sandy Cove Lions Club, located on the coast of the Strait of Belle Isle, as a result of $15,000 in funding received through the Provincial Government’s Community Capital Grant Program.

“This initiative will provide residents with a safe, fully-equipped playground,” said the Honourable Derrick Dalley, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Recreation. “It is great to see the Sandy Cove Lions Club engaged in a project that will improve opportunities for increased participation in fun, physical activity.”

The Sandy Cove Lions Club is among several community-based organizations, municipalities, schools, and recreation commissions which have received funding to upgrade their recreation and sport infrastructure through these latest Community Capital Grant Program investments.

Budget 2012: People and Prosperity provides $8.6 million to support recreation and sport in the province. Since the launch of the Provincial Government’s recreation and sport strategy, Active, Healthy Newfoundland and Labrador (2007), more than $70 million has been committed to recreational and sport infrastructure, programming, and athlete development throughout the province.
