New Playground Equipment Being Purchased for Hazelwood Elementary

Hazelwood Elementary has received a $15,000 grant through the Provincial Government’s Community Capital Grants Program to purchase playground equipment. This latest grant is in addition to a grant announced earlier this month to support the playground’s construction.

“The new equipment will be a welcome addition to the upgraded playground space,” said the Honourable Derrick Dalley, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Recreation. “We are pleased to assist in this project which will provide students with an improved outdoor area for play and various physical activities.”

Hazelwood Elementary is among many community-based organizations, municipalities, schools, and recreation commissions which have received funding to upgrade their recreation and sport infrastructure through these latest capital grant program investments.

“The Provincial Government’s contribution of $15,000 will help Hazelwood Elementary replace the playground that was vandalized last summer,” said John Dinn, MHA for Kilbride. “Hazelwood Elementary is one of the finest schools in the Eastern School District. Children who attend Hazelwood get a quality education from dedicated staff.”

Budget 2012: People and Prosperity provides $8.6 million to support recreation and sport in the province. Since the launch of the Provincial Government’s recreation and sport strategy, Active, Healthy Newfoundland and Labrador (2007), more than $70 million has been committed to recreational and sport infrastructure, programming, and athlete development throughout the province.
