New Playground for Town of Channel-Port aux Basques

The Town of Channel-Port aux Basques will be purchasing new playground equipment with a $15,000 grant provided through the Provincial Government’s Community Capital Grants Program.

“We are pleased to support this community project,” said the Honourable Derrick Dalley, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Recreation. “Funding will be used to provide the town’s children and youth with an improved outdoor area for play and other physical activity.”

The Town of Channel-Port aux Basques is among several community-based organizations, municipalities, schools, and recreation commissions which have received funding to upgrade their recreation and sport infrastructure through these latest capital grant program investments.

Budget 2012: People and Prosperity provides $8.6 million to support recreation and sport in the province. Since the launch of the Provincial Government’s recreation and sport strategy, Active, Healthy Newfoundland and Labrador (2007), more than $70 million has been committed to recreational and sport infrastructure, programming, and athlete development throughout the province.
