Playground for Lake Melville School Being Upgraded
The Lake Melville School Committee will be upgrading the school’s playground thanks in part to a $15,000 grant provided through the Provincial Government’s Community Capital Grants Program.
“This funding will be used to purchase new equipment for the existing playground,” said the Honourable Derrick Dalley, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Recreation. “The upgrades will make it safer and more enjoyable for the children using the playground, and will encourage them to be more physically active.”
The Lake Melville School Committee is among several community-based organizations, municipalities, schools, and recreation commissions which have received funding to upgrade their recreation and sport infrastructure through these latest capital grant program investments.
“The grant for Lake Melville School will be a great help to the community of Northwest River in revitalizing their playground for the benefit of all of the town’s children,” said Keith Russell, MHA for Lake Melville. “This is yet another example of our government’s commitment to sports, recreational infrastructure, and healthy and safe outdoor activity for our youth.”
Budget 2012: People and Prosperity provides $8.6 million to support recreation and sport in the province. Since the launch of the Provincial Government’s recreation and sport strategy, Active, Healthy Newfoundland and Labrador (2007), more than $70 million has been committed to recreational and sport infrastructure, programming, and athlete development throughout the province.
