Burin Bay Arm Benefits from $15,000 Community Capital Investment

The Donald C. Jamieson Playground Committee in Burin Bay Arm will be purchasing a playground structure thanks in part to $15,000 in funding provided through the Provincial Government’s Community Capital Grants Program.

“This funding will be used to assist with the enhancement and upgrade of the local community playground,” said the Honourable Derrick Dalley, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Recreation. “We are pleased to assist in this project that will provide a safe place for students and children in the community to participate in healthy and fun outdoor activities.”

The Donald C. Jamieson Playground Committee is among various community-based organizations, municipalities, and recreation commissions which have received funding to upgrade their recreation and sport infrastructure through these latest Capital Grant Program investments.

“It’s great to see that the Donald C. Jamieson Playground Committee is working together with the community to ensure this park becomes a reality,” said the Honourable Clyde Jackman, Minister of Education and MHA for Burin - Placentia West. “The promotion of health and well-being and providing a safe play area for the public use of this park are of the utmost importance. This government continues to invest in recreational infrastructure throughout the province.”

Budget 2012: People and Prosperity provides $8.6 million to support recreation and sport in the province. Since the launch of the Provincial Government’s recreation and sport strategy, Active, Healthy Newfoundland and Labrador (2007), more than $70 million has been committed to recreational and sport infrastructure, programming, and athlete development throughout the province.
