Residents Invited to Get Moving for Recreation Month

The June is Recreation Month campaign was officially launched during Recreation Newfoundland and Labrador’s 2012 Annual General Meeting and Conference, held at the Holiday Inn in St. John’s earlier this month. The Honourable Derrick Dalley, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Recreation, was on hand to speak to the delegation and sign the official proclamation

“For more than 40 years, Recreation Newfoundland and Labrador has been promoting and advancing recreation and physical activity throughout the province,” said Minister Dalley. “We are encouraging all citizens to be more active and enjoy the various recreational and physical activities that are being offered in their communities.”

This year, Recreation Newfoundland and Labrador named Joanne MacDonald as honorary chairwoman of the 2012 Recreation Month campaign. Ms. MacDonald is a member of the Newfoundland and Labrador Sports Hall of Fame and recipient of the Orders of Newfoundland and Labrador and Canada.

“Ms. MacDonald has been very active in recreation and sport throughout her entire life,” said Ian Flynn, President of Recreation Newfoundland and Labrador. “She is an inspirational role model for all citizens in this province and we are very pleased to have her as honorary chair.”
