Public Advisory: Evacuation Order Lifted in Wheeler Brook

The Department of Natural Resources has lifted the evacuation order for Wheeler Brook located in close proximity to St. George’s Bay. Forestry officials have determined current weather and forest conditions warrant lifting the order.

The fire, which started on July 6 and was approximately 350 hectares in size, is now contained. The public is asked to stay off the actual fire site and respect barriers as crews continue to clean-up and monitor the situation.

Forestry officials encourage the public to be vigilant and exercise caution when they are in the woods. The number to report a forest fire is toll-free 1-866-709-FIRE (3473), and is available in all areas of the province during forest fire season.
