Public Advisory: Provincial Government Lifts Province-wide Fire Ban

The outdoor fire ban for Newfoundland and Labrador will end as of midnight tonight (Thursday, June 28). Forestry officials have determined current weather and forest conditions warrant lifting the ban.

There is no longer a restriction on fireworks, campfires, open fires, the use of outdoor wood burning devices, backyard fires, including backyard fire pits, and beach fires. Burning of brush requires a permit to burn which can be obtained free-of-charge from provincial forestry offices.

Forestry officials encourage the public to be vigilant and to exercise caution when lighting fireworks, and when in and around forested areas.

To report a forest fire call toll-free 1-866-709-FIRE (3473).

For more information on permits to burn, please contact the District Forest Office in your area. Contact numbers can be found at www.gov.nl.ca/nr/department/contact/forestry/forestry.html
