Public Advisory: Province-wide Open Fire Ban to Be Implemented

The Department of Natural Resources is implementing an outdoor fire ban for forest land on the island portion of the province as of midnight tonight (Sunday, June 24). An outdoor fire ban is already in place for Labrador.

Recent dry weather and hot temperatures experienced on the island portion of the province have heightened the forest fire threat throughout many areas. Accordingly, departmental officials have determined that unauthorized burning, such as campfires and brush burning, cannot take place in and around forested areas.

The outdoor fire ban will be lifted when weather and forest conditions warrant.

For more information, please contact the District Forest Office in your area. Contact numbers can be found at www.gov.nl.ca/nr/department/contact/forestry/forestry.html
