Forest Fair 2012 Makes East Coast Debut

For the first time in its five-year history, the annual Forest Fair is being held on the east coast of the province. The event, focused on promoting the forest sector in Newfoundland and Labrador, will be held at the Jack Byrne Arena in Torbay from May 10 to 12.

“Forest Fair 2012 will provide opportunity to learn first hand the importance of the forest industry and sustainable forest management practices,” said the Honourable Jerome Kennedy, Minister of Natural Resources and Minister Responsible for the Forestry and Agrifoods Agency. “The forest industry is important to the entire province and we look forward to raising awareness in the eastern region.”

Hosted by the Department of Natural Resources Forestry and Agrifoods Agency, Renewable Resource, Sustainable Future is the theme of this year’s Forest Fair. The event presents a variety of interactive displays and demonstrations, forest harvesting and firefighting equipment, and will feature forest mascots Smokey the Bear and Marti the Pine Marten.

Forest Fair 2012 will be held at the Jack Byrne Arena May 10 to May 12 as follows:

Minister Kennedy will address attendees on Friday, May 11, at 10:00 a.m.

Admission is free and is open to the general public.
