$2.7 million Invested for Infrastructure Improvements in
Trinity North Communities

The Dunderdale Government is investing over $2.7 million of municipal infrastructure improvements for Trinity North communities. Including contributions from municipalities, the total funding for projects is over $3.5 million.

“Quality municipal infrastructure is an important component for vibrant and sustainable municipalities,” said the Honourable Kevin O’Brien, Minister of Municipal Affairs. “The funding for Trinity North provides for a variety of upgrades including water and sewer, roads and recreation. These upgrades will be of great benefit for the residents in this region.”

Over $2.3 million has been provided to Clarenville under the 2012-14 Multi-Year Capital Works program. The majority of funding at $2.1 million will be used for water and sewer and street improvements for Forest Road and Cormack Drive. Another $200,000 will be used for upgrading recreation facilities.

Under the Municipal Capital Works program, over $302,000 has been allocated for water supply improvements in Milton. The Local Service District of Random Sound West will receive over $124,000 to extend their fire hall for meeting space and an additional $18,000 to install curb stops. The Town of Petley will receive over $43,000 for a new drilled well.

Funding is cost-shared based on population, with the Provincial Government providing 80 per cent of the total project cost for Clarenville and 90 per cent for Milton, Random Sound West and Petley.

“Improved municipal infrastructure supports continued growth and prosperity,” said the Honourable Ross Wiseman, Speaker of the House of Assembly and MHA for Trinity North. “I’m delighted our region continues to experience growth and that growth continues to be supported by the Provincial Government.”

Budget 2012: People and Prosperity included $130 million over two years for municipal capital works projects. Since 2008, the Provincial Government has invested over $500 million in municipal capital works projects which has resulted in improved municipal infrastructure across the province. These projects have provided municipalities the opportunity to secure, develop and improve infrastructure for residents and support the long-term sustainability of growth and development of communities.

The Provincial Government has also maintained improved cost-shared funding ratios established in 2008 to benefit municipalities. For communities with populations below 3,000, the Provincial Government will continue to invest 90 per cent of the cost of new infrastructure with the municipality providing 10 per cent; 80 per cent of the cost will continue to be covered for populations between 3,000 and 7,000; and 70 per cent of the cost will continue to be covered for municipalities with populations over 7,000.
