Ninety-two Per Cent of Auditor General Recommendations Acted On

According to the most recent Update on Prior Years’ Report, the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador has a 92 per cent compliance rate in either fully or partially implementing recommendations from previous Auditor General reports. This marks an improvement over last year’s compliance rate of 89 per cent.

“The implementation rate that we see this year is a clear indication of how seriously we take the work of the Auditor General and his recommendations,” said the Honourable Tom Marshall, Minister of Finance and President of Treasury Board. “Implementing almost all past recommendations displays this government’s continued commitment to responsible management of public funds.”

In 2010, the Auditor General set a goal of having 80 per cent of recommendations acted upon. The province has far exceeded this goal.

“Departments are also closely reviewing recommendations from the Auditor General’s most recent annual report,” said Minister Marshall. “We will once again act where necessary to implement measures that further enhance our goals of sound governance and fiscal discipline.”
