Pre-Budget Consultations to Begin

The schedule of annual pre-budget consultations was released today by the Honourable Tom Marshall, Minister of Finance and President of Treasury Board. The first consultation is in St. John’s on January 13.

“Consultations are a key component of the province’s budget process,” said Minister Marshall. “I look forward to gathering feedback from the people of Newfoundland and Labrador on some of the significant issues facing the province including our debt, fiscal sustainability and economic diversification.”

“I believe it is important that we plan for the type of province that we wish to see in five, 10 or 20 years from now and I hope that this is a theme that is brought forward during the consultation process,” said Minister Marshall. “We must remember that our nonrenewable resources will not last forever and it is critical that we leverage them to the benefit of all residents of the province today and into the future.”

Those who would like to participate in a pre-budget meeting are requested to register at least 48 hours in advance of the scheduled meeting time by phoning 709-729-2944 or by e-mailing budget@gov.nl.ca.
