2012 Big Game Licence Draw Concluded

The annual resident big game licence draw for moose and caribou for the 2012-13 hunting season is now complete and licence notifications will be mailed out to all successful applicants in the coming days. More than 71,000 applications were submitted both online and by mail for this year’s draw. The total number of resident moose licences available for the season in Newfoundland and Labrador is 28,695. On the island portion of the province, 474 resident caribou licences are available.

“Interest in our big game resources in Newfoundland and Labrador remains very high", said the Honourable Terry French, Minister of Environment and Conservation. "We continue to be encouraged by the number of online applications received again this year, with more than 41,000 applications being filed online. Accessing our website not only permits hunters, trappers and guides to apply for a licence or make payments, it also allows them to access information about the status of an application, complete licence returns or review their own history."

Successful applicants can pay for a big game licence any time now throughout the hunting season using one of the four payment options available. Payments made on-line at www.wildlife.gov.nl.ca must be received before July 31, 2012.

Payments made by mail, telephone or in-person must be received by July 13, 2012 in order to guarantee receipt of licences and tags before the start of the hunting season. Payment can be mailed to the follow address:

Big Game Licence
c/o Central Cash
P.O. Box 8770
St. John’s, NL
A1B 4J6

Credit card payment can be made by calling the Central Cashier’s office at 709-729-2135. Payments can also be made in person at the Central Cashier’s Office located on the second floor, East Block, Confederation Building, St. John’s. Payments will be accepted after the deadline date, however there may be delays in receiving licences and tags. Payments are not accepted at any of the Wildlife Division offices. The first big game season for the island starts with the pre-season bow hunt scheduled to begin August 25.

Hunters are reminded that black bear licences are also available, and individuals may apply for a licence and make payments online. Payments for black bear licences are subject to the same deadlines and conditions as those for big game.

Resident hunters can obtain information about their draw results and priority status and pay for licences by visiting www.wildlife.gov.nl.ca or by calling 709-637-2025 or 709-729-2630.
