Environmental Assessment Bulletin

The Honourable Terry French, Minister of Environment and Conservation, has announced the following events relative to Part 10 Environmental Assessment of the Environmental Protection Act.

UNDERTAKING REGISTERED:

West Pond - Lakewood Chalets Development         (Reg. 1648)
Proponent: 58820 Newfoundland & Labrador Inc.

The undertaking consists of the development of two parcels of Crown land (O.81 hectares each) located adjacent to West Pond, approximately 22 kilometres west of Springdale. The undertaking will include the construction of rental chalets, a main building and associated road construction. The chalets will be accessed via a 1,500 metre extension to an existing cottage access road that is used by cabin owners in the West Pond area. The road extension and development area will reserve specific electrical right-of-way to service each chalet. Development will act as an expansion accommodation property affiliated with the existing Riverwood Inn located in Springdale. The chalets will afford guests access to multi-seasonal activities such as boating, ATV riding and snowmobiling. Development is set to begin in the fall of 2012.

The undertaking was registered on May 30, 2012; public comments are due by July 5 2012; and the minister’s decision is due by July 14, 2012.
