Roofing Project Tendered for St. Kevin’s Junior High, Goulds
Atlantic Roofing Co. Ltd. of St. John’s has been awarded a $194,266 contract to undertake a roofing project at St. Kevin’s Junior High in Goulds.
“The Provincial Government is continuing to fund upgrades, renovations and repairs to school infrastructure throughout Newfoundland and Labrador,” said the Honourable Clyde Jackman, Minister of Education. “These projects are designed to protect our investment in existing school facilities and to ensure students and staff continue to enjoy safe, comfortable learning environments.”
Over the past eight years, more than 1,500 repairs and maintenance projects – including new roofs, windows, siding, electrical upgrades, and more – have been approved for schools throughout Newfoundland and Labrador.
“Government’s strategic investments in educational infrastructure help ensure the quality of education for our youth” said the Honourable Keith Hutchings, Minister of Innovation, Business and Rural Development and MHA for Ferryland. “Maintaining and upgrading school facilities is a key ingredient in achieving our broader objectives in K-12 education.”
Budget 2011 Standing Strong: For Prosperity. For Our Future. For Newfoundland and Labrador, includes $94.5 million for new and ongoing K-12 infrastructure projects, including $34.3 million for repairs and maintenance.
Since 2004, the Provincial Government has allocated more than $504 million for school infrastructure. Nine new schools have opened; five more are in various stages of planning or construction; 11 major extension and renovation projects have been completed, and seven more are underway or in the planning stages.
