Shoal Brook Bridge to be Replaced

The Department of Transportation and Works has called a tender for the replacement of the Shoal Brook Bridge on Newfoundland’s west coast.

“This aging piece of our highway system needed to be replaced with a modern structure,” said the Honourable Tom Hedderson, Minister of Transportation and Works. “I am pleased to announce this work will be completed this construction season.”

The tender provides for the replacement of the Shoal Brook Bridge on Route 431, with a concrete arch structure.

“The replacement of this structure is welcome news for the people in our region who drive this road every day,” said Wallace Young, MHA for St. Barbe. “Our government continues to show its commitment to investing in the transportation infrastructure in every corner of our province.”

Budget 2011 Standing Strong: For Prosperity. For Our Future. For Newfoundland and Labrador provides funding of $216.4 million for road and bridge improvements, supplemented by an additional $35.2 million in Federal Government funding, for a total road and bridge investment in 2011-12 of $251.6 million.
