Pavement Improvements Coming to the Southern Shore

New pavement is on the way for several roads along the Southern Shore of the Avalon Peninsula this construction season.

“This government continues to invest in paving and upgrading in regions around this province,” said the Honourable Tom Hedderson, Minister of Transportation and Works. “The work to be completed as part of this tender will provide a better driving experience for our citizens as well as the many tourists who travel these roads every summer.”

The tender will result in approximately three kilometers of Witless Bay Line, Route 13, being upgraded and paved. Paving will also be carried out on several local roads in Tors Cove and Cape Broyle.

“This tender will see upgrades to some of our local roads, as well as to one of the main transportation links in our region, Witless Bay Line,” said Keith Hutchings, MHA for Ferryland. “These are roads that our community members and visitors use everyday and I am pleased with this investment in our transportation infrastructure.”

Budget 2011 Standing Strong: For Prosperity. For Our Future. For Newfoundland and Labrador provides funding of $216.4 million for road and bridge improvements, supplemented by an additional $35.2 million in Federal Government funding, for a total road and bridge investment in 2011-12 of $251.6 million.
