Bridge Replacement Part of Tender Call for Trinity North

A timber bridge in St. Jones Within, along with a temporary culvert in Hillview, will be replaced this construction season, as the Department of Transportation and Works calls a tender for culvert installations in Trinity North.

“This infrastructure was damaged in Hurricane Igor and needs to be replaced,” said the Honourable Tom Hedderson, Minister of Transportation and Works. “With this tender call, we will be replacing water flow structures at two locations, thereby reinforcing our transportation system in this area of the province.”

This tender provides for the removal and replacement of an existing timber bridge, constructed in 1970 and damaged in Hurricane Igor, with an aluminum culvert and stabilization materials. One-way traffic will be maintained during the project.

This tender also provides for the installation of a large aluminum culvert with retaining materials and structural supports on Route 205 in Hillview. This will replace a smaller culvert installed as a temporary repair after Hurricane Igor.

“This construction season will see all final repairs made after Hurricane Igor,” said the Honourable Ross Wiseman, Minister of Environment and Conservation and MHA for Trinity North. “With these repairs, we are restoring our infrastructure, which will benefit area residents and the travelling public.”

Budget 2011 Standing Strong: For Prosperity. For Our Future. For Newfoundland and Labrador provides funding of $216.4 million for road and bridge improvements, supplemented by an additional $35.2 million in Federal Government funding, for a total road and bridge investment in 2011-12 of $251.6 million.
