Commissariat House Kicks Off the Holiday Season

Residents of all ages are invited to ring-in the holiday season at Commissariat House by attending the event, Christmas in the Colony, being held November 26-27.

“This family-focused event being held at Commissariat House is a great example of how we are revitalizing Provincial Historic Sites,” said the Honourable Derrick Dalley, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Recreation. “Such an event engages residents both young and old, extends our site season, and provides support for community causes, such as the Community Food Sharing Association. I encourage everyone to attend.”

During this event, each day from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., visitors to Commissariat House will enjoy music and stories, decoration making, pudding tasting, hot chocolate, and a variety of hands-on family activities. In addition, on Saturday, November 26, from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., visitors will be treated to Commissariat by Candlelight, as a variety of sights, sounds and colourful characters come alive to celebrate St. John’s Christmas traditions in the 1830s. Admission is a non-perishable food item for the Community Food Sharing Association.
