Upgrades Coming to Baseball Field in Postville
The Provincial Government, through the Capital Grant Program, has provided $15,000 to the Postville Inuit Community Government to assist with upgrades to the local baseball field.
“As government, we are pleased to provide funding to improve community recreation facilities,” said the Honourable Terry French, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Recreation. “By providing continued support to organizations such as the Postville Inuit Community Government, we are that much closer to reaching our goal of increasing participation in sport, recreation and physical activities for all residents.”
The Postville Inuit Community Government is among more than 50 community-based organizations, municipalities, schools and recreation commissions that have received funding to upgrade their recreation and sport infrastructure through these latest Capital Grant Program investments.
“Outdoor recreation is embraced and flourishes in the northern coastal communities of Labrador,” said the Honourable Patty Pottle, Minister of Aboriginal Affairs and MHA for Torngat Mountains. “This funding will go far in enhancing and improving the baseball field in Postville, a sport enjoyed by thousands of residents across our province.”
Budget 2011 Standing Strong: For Prosperity. For Our Future. For Newfoundland and Labrador provides $11.5 million to support recreation and sport in the province. Since the launch of the Provincial Government’s recreation and sport strategy, Active, Healthy Newfoundland and Labrador (2007), more than $70 million has been committed to recreational and sport infrastructure, programming, and athlete development throughout the province.
