Publishing Industry Supported with $200,000 Investment

Six publishing companies in Newfoundland and Labrador are receiving approximately $200,000 through the Provincial Government’s 2011 Publishers’ Assistance Program.

“The Publishers’ Assistance Program is designed to support local publishers to promote their work provincially, nationally, and internationally,” said the Honourable Terry French, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Recreation. “The Provincial Government recognizes the vast amount of creative literary talent in our province. The program is designed to strengthen our literary sector by encouraging quality products and valuable marketing, and by making professional development services available to publishers.”

The Publishers’ Assistance Program was introduced in 2006 as part of the province’s cultural strategy, Creative Newfoundland and Labrador. Local publishers approved for assistance in 2011 are as follows:

Budget 2011 Standing Strong: For Prosperity. For Our Future. For Newfoundland and Labrador provides $2.9 million through its Cultural Economic Development Program to support arts, cultural, and heritage initiatives throughout the province. Projects are selected based on the strength of the business plan, vision, and potential development within the sector.
