Goulds Improves Recreation Centre with Provincial Grant

The Goulds Recreation Association has received $10,400 through the Provincial Government’s Capital Grant Program to assist with upgrades to the recreation centre.

“This investment will be used to upgrade the recreation centre by repairing the gym floor, painting the gymnasium walls, and constructing a storage area,” said the Honourable Terry French, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Recreation. “Maintaining a safe and enjoyable environment for residents to partake in physical activity is a key component to encouraging a healthy, active lifestyle.”

The Goulds Recreation Association is among more than 50 community-based organizations, municipalities, and recreation commissions that have received funding to upgrade their recreation and sport infrastructure through these latest Capital Grant Program investments.

“The Goulds Recreation Centre is an integral part of the community,” said John Dinn, MHA for Kilbride. “This facility needs interior improvements. The grant will go a long way in getting this work done.”

Budget 2011 Standing Strong: For Prosperity. For Our Future. For Newfoundland and Labrador provides $11.5 million to support recreation and sport in the province. Since the launch of the Provincial Government’s recreation and sport strategy, Active, Healthy Newfoundland and Labrador (2007), more than $70 million has been committed to recreational and sport infrastructure, programming, and athlete development throughout the province.
