Hill View Park in Parsons Pond Uses Funding for Facelift
The Town of Parsons Pond has received $15,000 through the Provincial Government’s Capital Grant Program to assist with repairs and upgrades to Hill View Park.
“The Town of Parsons Pond will use this funding for repairs to the existing sports field, playground, canteen, and multi-purpose building, as well as general upgrades,” said the Honourable Terry French, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Recreation. “The Provincial Government recognizes that upgrading facilities and green spaces such as this is an integral component of increasing physical, recreational, and social activities within a community.”
The Town of Parsons Pond is among more than 50 community-based organizations, municipalities, and recreation commissions that have received funding to upgrade their recreation and sport infrastructure through these latest Capital Grant Program investments.
“I am delighted that Parsons Pond and its residents will benefit from this funding program,” said Wallace Young, MHA for St. Barbe. “This work will improve their recreational infrastructure and help to promote participation in physical activities among residents.”
Budget 2011 Standing Strong: For Prosperity. For Our Future. For Newfoundland and Labrador provides $11.5 million to support recreation and sport in the province. Since the launch of the Provincial Government’s recreation and sport strategy, Active, Healthy Newfoundland and Labrador (2007), more than $70 million has been committed to recreational and sport infrastructure, programming, and athlete development throughout the province.
