Funding Improves Playground in the Town of Glenwood
The Glenwood Recreation Committee has received $15,000 through the Provincial Government’s Capital Grant Program to purchase new playground equipment.
“The Provincial Government supports projects that provide children and youth with safe and fun environments to get active,” said the Honourable Terry French, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Recreation. “We continue to help organizations that initiate participation and physical activity in their communities.”
The Glenwood Recreation Committee is among more than 50 community-based organizations, municipalities, schools and recreation commissions that have received funding to upgrade their recreation and sport infrastructure through these latest Capital Grant Program investments.
“This playground equipment will be thoroughly enjoyed by the youth of Glenwood,” said the Honourable Kevin O’Brien, Minister of Municipal Affairs and MHA for Gander. “By working with our communities and providing financial support for recreation equipment and infrastructure, we are having a lasting impact upon the health and activity of residents.”
Budget 2011 Standing Strong: For Prosperity. For Our Future. For Newfoundland and Labrador provides $11.5 million to support recreation and sport in the province. Since the launch of the Provincial Government’s recreation and sport strategy in 2007, more than $70 million has been committed to recreational and sport infrastructure, programming, and athlete development throughout the province.
