Hant’s Harbour Granted $15,000 for Recreational Facility

The Hant’s Harbour Recreation Committee has received $15,000 through the Provincial Government’s Capital Grant Program to assist with the costs associated with the completion of the Regional Sports Centre.

“Once completed, this year-round facility will be used by residents in the area for various sport, recreation, and social activities,” said the Honourable Terry French, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Recreation. “It is encouraging to support such a project to provide people, particularly children and youth, with a safe place to participate in healthy and fun physical activities.”

The Hant’s Harbour Recreation Committee is among more than 50 community-based organizations, municipalities and recreation commissions that have received funding to upgrade their recreation and sport infrastructure through these latest Capital Grant Program investments.

“Investments in recreational infrastructure provide additional opportunities for residents to participate in sports and leisure programs,” said the Honourable Charlene Johnson, Minister of Child, Youth and Family Services and MHA for Trinity-Bay de Verde. “I am delighted with this funding announcement that will contribute to the social and physical well-being of the residents of Hant’s Harbour and surrounding communities.”

Budget 2011 Standing Strong: For Prosperity. For Our Future. For Newfoundland and Labrador provides $11.5 million to support recreation and sport in the province. Since the launch of the Provincial Government’s recreation and sport strategy, Active, Healthy Newfoundland and Labrador (2007), more than $70 million has been committed to recreational and sport infrastructure, programming, and athlete development throughout the province.
